Request that the Department of Transportation Services of the City and County of Honolulu implement traffic calming systems to regulate speeding on surface streets throughout Honolulu.

Identify traffic calming methods including narrow lanes, speed bumps, speed tables, raised crosswalks and intersections, and roundabouts as tools to manage traffic flow.

Mandate immediate implementation of traffic calming systems on Kahuanui Street and the section of Hiapo Street between Mahoe Street and Waipahu Street in Waipahu.

Note that speeding was involved in 47 percent of all traffic fatalities in Hawaii according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Transmit a certified copy of the resolution to the Director of the Department of Transportation Services of the City and County of Honolulu.
