Request the Department of Transportation and each county to develop community crosswalk pilot programs featuring specially painted crosswalks designed to celebrate local history and culture.

Specially painted community crosswalks are intended to promote pedestrian safety by attracting driver attention and alerting drivers to pedestrian presence.

Resolution cites national data showing pedestrian deaths increased 35% between 2008 and 2017, with 2019 experiencing the most pedestrian deaths since 1990.

References successful community crosswalk implementations in other cities including Seattle, Washington; Medford, Massachusetts; and San Francisco, California.
