H.R. 137 Summary

• Requests the Department of Transportation to establish a task force to examine metric system use in Hawaii, including distance/speed measurements on public signs and problems faced by tourists from metric-based countries.

• Task force composition includes the Transportation Director (Chair), Directors of Business/Economic Development/Tourism and Agriculture, Hawaii Tourism Authority President/CEO, and one Senator and one Representative designated by their respective chamber leaders.

• Task force members may recommend additional members with relevant expertise, subject to chairperson approval.

• Department of Transportation shall provide administrative and clerical support to the task force.

• Task force must submit findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 60 days before the 2021 Regular Session convenes.
