Request County of Maui to finance and implement upgrades to the county's R-1 (reclaimed) water delivery system to reduce reliance on injection wells for water disposal.

Average of over 8,700,000 gallons of treated R-1 water is disposed of daily in Maui County via injection wells, causing groundwater contamination, algae blooms, and coral reef damage.

Designate and upgrade nine former plantation reservoirs for R-1 water storage: Field 140, Mahinahina, Crater, Kahoma, E-2, Makila, Kauaula, Olowalu, and Ukumehame.

Reclaimed water stored in upgraded reservoirs would support irrigation of agricultural lands and landscaping, emergency firefighting, and reduce pressure on potable drinking water supplies.

Transmit certified copies of resolution to the Board of Land and Natural Resources Chairperson, Maui County Mayor, Maui County Council members, and County Department of Water Supply Director.
