H.R. 84 Summary

• Requests the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations conduct a study and survey on gender representation on boards of public and private for-profit and nonprofit corporations in Hawaii.

• Study should identify the number of women directors serving on boards, analyze changes over time, compare Hawaii to other states and globally, examine economic impacts of female board representation, and review related laws and policies across the United States.

• Department is requested to seek input from the Department of Taxation, American Association of University Women Hawaii Chapter, Hawaii Employers Council, Hawaii Business Roundtable, and Hawaii Executive Collaborative.

• Department must submit a report with findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the convening of the Regular Session of 2021.

• Certified copies of the resolution are to be transmitted to relevant state and organizational leaders.
