S.B. 1343 Summary

• Requires compliance with the federal Military Selective Service Act as a condition for enrollment in state-supported post-secondary educational institutions and eligibility for state financial assistance for post-secondary education.

• Prohibits individuals not in compliance with the Military Selective Service Act from being employed by the State or any of its political subdivisions, or serving on any state or county offices, boards, commissions, departments, agencies, or instrumentalities.

• Provides exceptions for individuals under 18 or over 26 years of age, active duty military personnel, non-citizens and non-resident immigrants, permanent residents of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands or Northern Mariana Islands, and those excused under the Military Selective Service Act.

• Takes effect July 1, 2050, with section 2 becoming effective on January 1 following enactment of federal law expanding Selective Service registration requirements to include female individuals.
