S.B. 2031 Summary

• Requires the Department of Land and Natural Resources to place historical markers throughout Hawaii indicating significant sites in the life of President Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States.

• Specifies nine sites for markers including 6085 Kalanianaole Highway, Baskin-Robbins on King Street, Island Snow, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, Koko Crater Trail, Noelani Elementary School, Punahou Circle Apartments, Punahou School, and Sandy Beach.

• Permits markers to be placed on private business property only if the business agrees; if not agreed to, markers shall be placed on public property nearest to the site.

• Appropriates funds from general revenues for fiscal year 2020-2021 to the state historic preservation division for placing the historical markers.

• Takes effect July 1, 2020.
