S.B. 2648 Summary

• Amends the definition of "public lands" in HRS §171-2 to clarify that lands set aside by the governor to the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation, lands leased to the corporation by state departments or agencies, and lands held in the corporation's corporate capacity are exempt from public lands classification.

• Modifies HRS §171-64.7 to include lands leased to the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation by state departments or agencies within the scope of applicable land management provisions.

• Requires lands leased to the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation by state departments or agencies that are no longer needed for housing, finance, or development to be returned to the state department or agency that originally leased them.

• Effective date of July 1, 2050.
