SB 2849 Summary

• Clarifies law enforcement standards board membership to consist of 9 ex officio members (or designees), 5 law enforcement officers (one from each county plus one state officer), and 4 public members, all serving as voting members

• Increases terms for law enforcement officers and public members from three to four years, with staggered initial appointments

• Establishes July 1, 2023 as the deadline for law enforcement officers to obtain board certification and for new hires to possess valid certification; allows exceptions for probationary employees and those hired before that date with valid collective bargaining agreements
