S.B. 808 - Drug Disposal Program

• Establishes a statewide drug disposal program administered by the Department of the Attorney General to safely and environmentally responsibly dispose of prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

• Requires the attorney general to work with law enforcement agencies, pharmacies, hospitals, and other authorized entities to ensure at least one drug disposal repository operates in each county.

• Mandates that repositories render drugs non-retrievable within two hours and into environmentally friendly substances, with independent third-party verification required.

• Allows the attorney general to establish home drug disposal receptacles as an alternative or supplement to repositories for residents to dispose of drugs at their residences.

• Creates the Drug Disposal Special Fund to support repository purchase, operation, maintenance, and distribution of home drug disposal receptacles through attorney general grants; effective July 1, 2050.
