S.C.R. NO. 207 - Study on After School Programs

• The Department of Education is urged to conduct a study on how after school programs may be augmented, increased, or expanded.

• Existing after school programs referenced include After-School Plus (A+), Resources for Enrichment, Athletics, Culture, and Health (REACH), and Uniting Peer Learning, Integrating New Knowledge (UPLINK).

• The study should examine how expanded programs can support working families, reduce youth involvement in criminal activity and substance abuse, address high teen suicide rates, and teach life skills including financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

• The Department must submit a report with findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the Regular Session of 2021 convenes.

• Certified copies of the resolution are to be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education and Superintendent of Education.
