Department of Accounting and General Services is urged to purchase, distribute, and install emergency evacuation chairs in every state building with two or more floors.

At minimum one emergency evacuation chair must be installed at or near a stairwell on each floor except the exit discharge floor, in compliance with state fire code.

Emergency evacuation chairs must be capable of ascending and descending stairs and procured in accordance with Hawaii Revised Statutes chapter 103D.

Department of Accounting and General Services is urged to maintain an inventory list of all chairs and perform yearly inspections to ensure safe placement and function.

Disability Communication and Access Board is urged to conduct annual training for relevant personnel and produce informational materials describing the purpose and proper use of emergency evacuation chairs.
