S.R. NO. 126 Summary

• Request State Foundation on Culture and the Arts to develop a comprehensive plan recognizing, honoring, and memorializing Mary Kawena Pukui's legacy in preserving Hawaiian culture and language.

• Plan should determine an appropriate memorial (such as monument or statue) and site where residents and visitors can learn about Pukui's contributions to Hawaiian culture and history.

• State Foundation to use Works of Art Special Fund for development and implementation of the memorial plan.

• Executive Director may establish a working group to support plan development and must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2021 Regular Session convenes.

• Certified copies to be sent to Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Hawaiian Homes Commission, State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and Mary Kawena Pukui Cultural Preservation Society.
