S.R. 137 Summary

• Recognizes the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, which was established on October 24, 1945, and celebrates its role in maintaining international peace, security, and human rights.

• Urges all state agencies to implement Executive Order No. 1806 (issued November 30, 2018) to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

• Calls for state acceleration in achieving all 17 SDGs, including goals related to poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water, renewable energy, economic growth, infrastructure, reduced inequality, sustainable cities, responsible consumption, climate action, marine conservation, land protection, peace, and partnerships.

• Directs transmission of certified copies to the Governor, all state department heads, county mayors, and city/county council chairs to ensure broad implementation and awareness across state and local government levels.

• Notes that Hawaii's Senate previously adopted the 17 SDGs in 2018 and that Hawaii's four counties have already adopted Executive Order No. 1806.
