S.R. No. 36 Summary

• Urges the Department of Education to increase access to trauma-informed care for public school students who experience sexual violence.

• Requests the Department of Education offer training in trauma-informed care to teachers, administrators, and school staff to improve reporting, prevention, and intervention in sexual violence cases.

• Urges the Department of Education to collaborate with victim service providers to develop school-based programs and protocols to identify and support students who are victims of sexual violence.

• Requires the Department of Education to submit a report to the Legislature at least twenty days before the Regular Session of 2021 detailing progress in implementing trauma-informed care practices and any proposed legislation.

• Directs certified copies be transmitted to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Board of Education members, and the Superintendent of Education.
