S.R. 72 Summary

• Requests the Department of Transportation establish a task force to explore metric system use in Hawaii, including distance and speed measurements on public signs and problems encountered by tourists from metric-based countries

• Task force membership includes the Director of Transportation (as chair), Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, Hawaii Tourism Authority President and CEO, Quality Assurance Division Administrator from Department of Agriculture, one Senate member, and one House member

• Task force members may recommend additional members with relevant expertise, subject to chairperson approval

• Department of Transportation shall provide administrative and clerical support to the task force

• Task force must submit a report to the Legislature with findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation no later than 60 days before the 2021 Regular Session convenes
