HB 1004 - Boiler and Elevator Safety Law

• Authorizes the Director of Labor and Industrial Relations to prohibit operation of pressure retaining items, amusement rides, and elevators if inspection fees or fines are not timely paid.

• Removes statutory fee schedules and requires the director to establish all fees by rules adopted under chapter 91, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

• Defines three new terms: "amusement ride" (mechanically or electrically operated device for entertainment), "permit to operate" (safety certificate), and "pressure retaining item" (boiler, pressure vessel, or pressure system).

• Replaces references to "boilers, pressure systems" with "pressure retaining items" throughout chapter 397 and extends inspection requirements to amusement rides and their premises.

• Takes effect upon approval.
