Governor shall transfer fee simple ownership of Route 30 (Honoapiilani Highway) from the State to Maui County by December 31, 2021, for use as a county highway.

Department of Transportation and Maui County shall jointly identify the section of Honoapiilani Highway threatened by inundation and erosion for transfer to the county to enable highway relocation.

Transfer is intended to allow Maui County to use lawsuit settlements from fossil fuel companies to fund relocation and maintenance of the scenic coastal route.

State will focus its resources on extending the Lahaina bypass as an alternate high-capacity thoroughfare for west Maui transportation infrastructure.

Act takes effect upon approval.
