HB 209 Summary

• Amends Section 132C-9, Hawaii Revised Statutes to allow the state fire council to employ full-time or part-time personnel (including administrators, administrative assistants, or other staff) to administer the reduced ignition propensity cigarette program, replacing the previous requirement for one full-time administrator and one full-time assistant.

• Exempts reduced ignition propensity cigarette program positions from Chapters 76 and 89, Hawaii Revised Statutes, bringing them into alignment with other state fire council staff employee exemptions.

• Allows moneys in the reduced ignition propensity cigarette program special fund to be used to cover the actual costs of activities required under Section 132C-4, including program administration, compliance inspections, certification processing, and laboratory testing.

• Takes effect upon approval.
