H.B. 220 Summary

• State Medicaid programs must provide coverage for ambulance services beginning January 1, 2022, and may optionally cover statewide community paramedicine services provided by emergency medical technicians or paramedics.

• All individual and group health insurance policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2022, must cover ambulance services and statewide services rendered by emergency medical technicians or paramedics.

• Hospital and medical service plan contracts issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2022, must provide coverage for ambulance services and statewide community paramedicine services.

• Health maintenance organization policies must include ambulance service coverage as a required benefit.

• General revenues are appropriated to the Department of Human Services for fiscal years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 to cover Medicaid costs for ambulance and community paramedicine services.
