HB309 Summary

• Expands breast cancer screening coverage for health insurance policies issued on or after January 1, 2022 to include formal risk factor screening assessments for women age 30 or older using risk-factor modeling tools.

• Adds coverage for supplemental breast imaging including MRI, digital breast tomosynthesis, and ultrasound as deemed medically necessary by American College of Radiology guidelines for women of any age.

• Modifies existing mammography requirements for women at above-average breast cancer risk to remove physician recommendation requirement and clarify risk determination through risk-factor modeling tools.

• Requires the State Auditor to conduct an impact assessment report on the social and financial impacts of the mandated coverage and submit findings to the legislature by 20 days before the 2022 regular session.

• Effective date July 1, 2060.
