Raises the definition of "minor" for firearm safe storage requirements from under 16 years to under 18 years in Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 134-10.5.

Requires firearm owners to store weapons in a securely locked container or secure location, or keep the firearm on their person, when a minor under 18 is likely to access it without parental permission.

Amends the criminally negligent storage offense in Section 707-714.5 to apply when a person violates storage requirements and a minor under 18 obtains the firearm.

Legislature finds that 68% of deadly school shootings involved attackers who obtained firearms from their home or a relative's home, and over 75% of firearms in youth suicide attempts and unintentional injuries were stored in a residence.

Takes effect upon approval.
