HB 313 Summary

• Repeals the requirement that at least 50% of physician workforce assessment fees deposited into the John A. Burns School of Medicine special fund be used for purposes identified by the Hawaii Medical Education Council

• Eliminates the annual expenditure cap of $245,000 on the John A. Burns School of Medicine special fund

• Authorizes the special fund to provide loan repayment assistance to physicians who commit to working in medically underserved areas of Hawaii as part of the Hawaii State Loan Repayment Program

• Authorizes the special fund to provide scholarships to qualifying medical students as determined by the John A. Burns School of Medicine

• Effective date is July 1, 2021
