• Establishes a Hawaii community correctional center task force within the department of public safety to study and recommend a new jail site to replace the facility's primary location on three acres in downtown Hilo.

• Task force shall examine potential new sites considering land acquisition costs, infrastructure adequacy, community impacts, and proximity to courts and police.

• Task force shall evaluate the existing facility for alternative governmental uses, including improvement costs and community impacts.

• Task force composition includes the director of public safety, Hawaii County mayor, planning director, police chief, correctional center warden, and other representatives designated by the public safety director.

• Director of public safety shall submit task force findings and recommendations to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2022 regular session; task force dissolves June 30, 2022.
