HB 767 Summary

• Transfers the Hawaii farm to school program from the Department of Agriculture to the Department of Education effective July 1, 2021.

• Establishes a goal that at least 30% of food served in public schools shall consist of locally sourced products by 2030, measured by percentage of total food cost.

• Requires the Department of Education to submit annual reports to the legislature beginning in 2022, no later than 20 days before each regular session.

• Annual reports must include program progress, percentage of locally sourced food by county, program costs and savings, large local purchases, meals with highest local content, and percentages of fresh versus processed food served.

• Defines "locally sourced products" as fresh local agricultural products (100% Hawaii-grown) or local value-added products (at least 51% primary agricultural ingredient Hawaii-grown).
