Establishes a task force to review Hawaii's food security and food safety practices and recommend actions to ensure food imports comply with the federal Food Safety Modernization Act, including proper temperatures and handling from source to point of sale.

Task force shall develop recommendations to prevent misleading labeling or advertising of imported foods that falsely imply Hawaiian origin or freshness comparable to locally grown or produced items.

Task force membership consists of the director of health, two senate members selected by the senate president, two house committee chairpersons (agriculture and health/human services), one University of Hawaii tropical agriculture professor, and two Hawaii-owned food distribution business owners.

Task force members serve without compensation and must submit findings and proposed legislation to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2022 regular session convenes.

Task force dissolves on June 30, 2022, and the act takes effect on July 1, 2021.
