• Prohibits health care employers from requiring nurses, nurse aides, and respiratory therapists to work beyond predetermined shifts, exceed 80 hours in a 14-day period, or accept overtime assignments that would jeopardize safety.

• Mandates a minimum of 10 consecutive hours of off-duty time immediately following each scheduled shift for covered health care workers.

• Provides eight exemptions including unforeseen emergencies, voluntary overtime up to 14 consecutive hours, on-call duties, medical transport aircraft work, school-sponsored events, and a special weekend contract arrangement with full-time benefits.

• Requires the state board of nursing (for nurses) and director of health (for nurse aides and respiratory therapists) to adopt implementing rules.

• Takes effect January 1, 2022.
