HB 902 Summary

• Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 171-2 to exempt lands set aside by the governor to the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation (HHFDC) and lands leased to HHFDC by state departments or agencies from classification as public lands subject to Department of Land and Natural Resources management.

• Modifies Section 171-64.7 to include similar exemptions for HHFDC lands in the list of properties owned or controlled by state departments and agencies.

• Requires HHFDC to return any lands set aside by the governor or leased from state departments that are no longer needed for housing, finance, or development purposes back to the originating state entity.

• Makes corresponding technical amendments to sections 171-2(6), (10), and (11) and Section 201H-9(a) to clarify land leasing and set-aside provisions for HHFDC and other development corporations.

• Effective date is July 1, 2050.
