Urges the University of Hawaii System and Department of Education to include training, courses, and curricula on mechanics, repair, and maintenance of electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, and other alternative fuel vehicles in their programs

Notes that Hawaii has over 10,000 electric vehicles on the road and ranks in the top five states nationally for electric vehicle adoption by percentage of vehicles purchased

Identifies that only 3 percent of automotive technicians currently have the skill set to work on electric vehicles, creating a workforce gap

Cites that drivers spend $2 billion annually on gasoline and diesel, releasing approximately 11 billion pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year

Requires certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the Board of Regents of the University of Hawaii, President of the University of Hawaii System, Board of Education, and Superintendent of Education
