SB 1158 Summary

• Replaces terminology "boilers and pressure systems" with unified term "pressure retaining items" throughout Chapter 397, Hawaii Revised Statutes

• Authorizes the director of labor and industrial relations to immediately revoke, suspend, or prohibit operation of pressure retaining items, amusement rides, and elevators when owners fail to pay required inspection fees or fines

• Adds three new definitions: "amusement ride" (mechanically or electrically operated device for entertainment), "permit to operate" (safety certificate issued after inspection and fee payment), and "pressure retaining item" (boiler, pressure vessel, or pressure system)

• Deletes the existing detailed fee schedules for boiler/pressure system, elevator, and amusement ride inspections, instead authorizing the director to prescribe reasonable fees by rule

• Changes fee administration from mandatory ("may") to mandatory ("shall") for the director to prescribe fees for inspections, examinations, permits, and certificates
