SB 1343 Summary

• Removes specific acreage limits for agricultural leases of Hawaiian home lands, making availability dependent on suitable land availability instead of fixed maximums.

• Allows agricultural leases to be for both for-profit and non-profit farming purposes.

• Retains acreage caps for other lease types: 40 acres maximum for aquaculture, 100 acres for irrigated pastoral lands, and 1,000 acres for other pastoral lands.

• Maintains existing exception allowing residence lots on Molokai to exceed one acre but not exceed four acres, and permits lessees to hold two detached farm or aquaculture lots on the same island.

• Effective date is May 6, 2137, contingent upon consent of the United States Congress.
