SB2 Summary

• Clarifies that lands set aside by the governor to the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation (HHFDC) or leased to it by state departments or agencies are exempt from the definition of "public lands" under Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 171-2.

• Requires the HHFDC to return any leased lands to the originating state department or agency if those lands are no longer needed for housing, finance, or development purposes.

• Requires the HHFDC to give preference to individuals on the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands waiting list when developing or financing affordable housing on government or crown lands set aside or leased to the corporation for ninety-nine years.

• Makes technical corrections to statutory language, including changing "prior to" to "before" in references to Hawaii's admission as a state and updating provisions related to the Aloha Tower development corporation and agribusiness development corporation.

• Effective date: July 1, 2050.
