S.B. 827 Summary

• Expands breast cancer screening coverage for women with above-average risk by requiring annual mammograms determined using a risk-factor modeling tool, effective for policies issued on or after January 1, 2022.

• Mandates coverage of formal risk factor screening assessments for women age 30 and older using any readily available risk factor modeling tool.

• Requires coverage of supplemental breast cancer imaging (magnetic resonance imaging, digital breast tomosynthesis, or ultrasound) for any woman regardless of age when deemed medically necessary by American College of Radiology guidelines.

• Directs the state auditor to conduct an impact assessment report on the social and financial impacts of the mandated coverage and submit findings to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2022 regular session.

• Takes effect July 1, 2060.
