S.B. 863 Summary

• Department of Education must conduct an electrical assessment on all public and conversion charter schools in Hawaii to determine if electrical capacity supports installation of air conditioning units and air purifying devices in classrooms.

• Department must evaluate each school's ability to support air conditioning and air purification improvements for ventilation purposes.

• Department of Education must submit a report to the legislature no later than December 31, 2021, containing findings, recommendations, and assessment of electrical capacity at each public and conversion charter school.

• Report must document the level of need for air conditioning units in classrooms across all public and charter schools in the State.

• Act takes effect upon approval.
