S.B. 864 - Charter School Auditors

• Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 302D-32 to require that at least two of the three independent auditors selected by the authorizer for public charter schools have offices on the neighbor islands (not Oahu).

• Authorizers continue to select three independent auditors from which each charter school chooses one, but the selection process must now include this neighbor island representation requirement.

• Addresses concerns that limiting auditor selection to Oahu-based firms creates undue burden and expense for neighbor island charter schools and delays completion of audits for all thirty-seven state public charter schools.

• Becomes effective upon approval.
