S.C.R. NO. 157 - Therapeutic Psilocybin Working Group

• Request that the Department of Health convene a Therapeutic Psilocybin Working Group to examine the medicinal and therapeutic effects of psilocybin and develop a long-term strategic plan for safe, accessible, and affordable psilocybin-based products for adults 21 years and older.

• Working group directed to examine federal, state, and local laws regarding therapeutic psilocybin use; medical, psychological, and scientific studies on psilocybin's safety and efficacy for treating mental health conditions; and requirements for medical professionals to prescribe psilocybin.

• Working group membership includes the Director of Health (chairperson), Attorney General, Dean of the John A. Burns School of Medicine, relevant legislative committee chairs, chairperson of the Hawaii State Council on Mental Health, and invited licensed physicians, advanced practice registered nurses, and psychiatrists.

• Working group required to submit preliminary findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2022 Regular Session and a final report with proposed legislation no later than 20 days before the 2023 Regular Session.

• Working group dissolved on July 1, 2023.
