S.C.R. NO. 43 Summary

• Acknowledges the genocide committed against Assyrians between 1915 and 1923 during the Ottoman Empire period, and the Seyfo genocide of 1933 in modern-day Iraq, in which approximately two-thirds of the Assyrian population and approximately 6,000 Assyrians were killed respectively.

• Urges the governments of Turkey and Iraq to formally recognize the genocide against Assyrians and provide scholars access to historical archives and relevant documents.

• Notes that the International Association of Genocide Scholars has determined the Assyrian genocide was part of a larger campaign against Christian minorities including Armenians and Greeks.

• Directs transmission of certified copies of the resolution to the Governor, U.S. Secretary of State, President of Turkey, President of Iraq, and the International Association of Genocide Scholars.
