Request Department of Transportation to review, revise, and update comprehensive plans for Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), which served approximately 20 million travelers in 2019.

Airport modernization plans should prepare for future pandemics, prioritize resident and visitor experience, establish Hawaiian sense of place through open-air design and lush gardens, and incorporate modern green building standards aligned with Hawaii and United Nations sustainability goals.

Plans should address the airport as a complete entity in phases to avoid disjointed planning, include expanded art exhibits and cultural storytelling, and consider revenue-generating opportunities such as entertainment and innovative experiences.

Department should involve in planning process experts in architecture, landscape design, green building standards, educational programming, plus chairs of Senate and House Transportation committees.

Certified copies of resolution to be transmitted to Governor and Director of Transportation.
