Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism and Executive Office of Aging, in coordination with County of Hawaii Office of Aging, are requested to conduct a study on the necessity and feasibility of a senior living center in the Ka'u district.

Study must be completed and a report of findings and recommendations submitted to the Legislature and County of Hawaii Office of the Mayor no later than January 1, 2022.

Resolution notes that 17 percent of Hawaii's population consists of seniors age 65 and older, and Hawaii has the highest life expectancy in the United States for those over 65 years of age according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Study is to utilize data from the 2020 Decennial Census, available beginning October 2021, to provide the most recent and accurate demographic information.

Certified copies of the resolution are to be transmitted to the County of Hawaii Office of the Mayor, Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, Director of the Office of Aging, and Administrator of the County of Hawaii Office of Aging.
