Department of Land and Natural Resources requested to establish a task force to propose a community-based stewardship program for Polihale State Park on Kauai addressing capacity access, fishing, surfing, and vehicle use.

Task force to include representatives from the Office of the Governor, Legislature members, DLNR staff, Kauai County Mayor's office, and Kauai County residents.

Program must address capital improvements to protect dunes and entry road, parking conditions, camping area maintenance, and concerns of lineal and cultural descendant families with burial sites in the park.

DLNR required to submit task force findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2022 Regular Session convenes.

Park was shut down in summer 2020 due to overuse and abuse from vehicles and recreational activities on sand and dunes containing Native Hawaiian burial remains.
