HB 1055 Summary

• Authorizes the director of transportation to directly acquire real property for roads and streets without requiring review or approval from the board of land and natural resources.

• Upon acquisition of property by the director of transportation, jurisdiction immediately transfers to the department of transportation without further board action.

• Allows the director of transportation to accept donations of land, money, or other property with gubernatorial approval for the state highway fund or highway purposes, subject to acceptable terms and conditions.

• Amends section 171-30, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to exclude department of transportation property acquisitions from the board of land and natural resources' exclusive responsibility for acquiring state property.

• Repeals section 264-24, Hawaii Revised Statutes, consolidating the director's powers into a new section 264 provision.

• Effective date: July 1, 2050.
