HB 1239 Summary

• Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 28-152(e) to require Law Enforcement Officer Independent Review Board members to serve four-year terms instead of terms specified by the appointing authority.

• Makes the Law Enforcement Officer Independent Review Board permanent by removing the June 30, 2022 sunset clause and repeal provision from Act 161, Session Laws of Hawaii 2016.

• Maintains that board members serve without compensation but shall be reimbursed for expenses, including travel expenses, incurred in performing their duties.

• Takes effect upon approval, except Section 3 (making the board permanent) takes effect on June 29, 2022.
