HI HB1842

Establishes a full-time climate change and human health adaptation specialist position within the Department of Health to coordinate adaptation efforts related to climate change impacts on human health.

Requires the specialist to develop and implement state goals, objectives, and policies addressing climate change health effects including temperature-related illness, air quality, extreme weather, vector-borne diseases, water-related illness, food safety, and mental health.

Directs the specialist to coordinate with the Office of Planning and Sustainable Development and other state and county entities to update the Hawaii 2050 sustainability plan regarding climate change and human health adaptation.

Appropriates general revenues from the State of Hawaii for fiscal year 2022-2023 to fund the specialist position (equivalent to Program Specialist VI level) and related operating expenses.

Takes effect on July 1, 2100.
