HB 1888 Summary

• Increases the threshold for required disclosure of electioneering communications from more than $1,000 to more than $2,000 in aggregate expenditures per calendar year

• Requires disclosure of electioneering communications on the date they are publicly distributed, with subsequent distributions disclosed on their respective distribution dates; mailers must be disclosed on their mailing date

• Exempts news stories and editorials published by electronic means from being classified as electioneering communications

• Repeals the exception that allowed actual expenditures by organizations to be excluded from electioneering communication regulations

• Applies to all elections beginning with the 2022 primary election with an effective date of July 1, 2112
