H.B. 2293 Summary

• Establishes the Prevent Suicide Hawaii Task Force within the Department of Health to develop policies and procedures to improve suicide prevention efforts in the state.

• Task force shall study and monitor implementation of Hawaii's strategic plan to reduce suicides by at least 25 percent by 2025, and submit annual legislative recommendations prior to each regular session.

• Task force membership consists of 19 specified positions including representatives from state departments, federal agencies, military, mental health organizations, county governments, legislative leadership, and two suicide survivors.

• Members serve voluntarily without compensation; task force must meet at least quarterly with all meetings open to the public and hold chair and vice chair elections within 30 days of initial meeting.

• Task force shall cease to exist on January 1, 2026.
