HI HB2294

Prohibits parking of motor vehicles on the grounds of Iolani Palace, effective January 1, 2023.

Requires the Department of Accounting and General Services to remove the blacktop, parking area, and parking meters adjacent to Iolani Palace by January 1, 2024.

Requires the Department of Land and Natural Resources to develop and maintain a pedestrian area composed of grass and historically appropriate materials to replace the removed parking infrastructure.

Mandates both departments to submit cost analyses and proposed legislation to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2023 regular session convenes.

Establishes that Iolani Palace grounds should be protected as a historic landmark and cultural site representing Hawaiian national identity and heritage.
