Department of Transportation shall deploy speed-monitoring technology, including cameras, on Kunia Road in central Oahu to improve traffic safety.

Kunia Road is a seven-mile-long, remote, unlit, two-lane road with approximately 14,000 daily vehicles; from 2016 to 2020 it had 167 major crashes including 8 fatalities and 17 serious injuries.

Department shall submit a preliminary progress report no later than 20 days before the 2023 regular legislative session and a final deployment report with findings and recommendations no later than 20 days before the 2024 regular session.

Appropriates funds from general revenues for fiscal year 2022-2023 to implement speed-monitoring technology on Kunia Road (specific dollar amount left blank in bill).

Act takes effect upon approval, with appropriation provisions effective July 1, 2022.
