HB 2365 - Electronic Citation Program

• Establishes a statewide electronic citation program within the Hawaii judiciary to replace paper citations for traffic, misdemeanor, and other violations.

• Defines "electronic citation" as the process of transmitting citations and law enforcement data electronically to the clerk of the court.

• Appropriates funds from general revenues for fiscal year 2022-2023 to the judiciary and as grants-in-aid to the city and county of Honolulu, county of Maui, county of Hawaii, and county of Kauai for implementation and operation of the program (specific amounts left blank in the bill).

• Authorizes the judiciary to adopt procedures for implementing the electronic citation program.

• Takes effect on January 1, 2023.
