H.B. 2429 Summary

• Establishes an Office of Health Equity within the Department of Health to advance health equity and address social determinants of health that contribute to health disparities.

• Office shall assess and monitor population health disparities, identify and engage stakeholders on policy improvements, evaluate efforts using short and long-term measures, and reassess strategies with stakeholders.

• Authorizes the office to appoint and convene two types of advisory groups: a policy advisory group (up to 18 members) to develop and support policy changes, and a community network advisory group to identify community needs and recommend solutions across five domains of social determinants.

• Appropriates funds from general revenues for fiscal year 2022-2023 to establish the office, hire positions, and engage contractors to carry out the purposes of this Act (specific amount left blank in bill).

• Takes effect July 1, 2022.
