HB 2483 - Digital Divide Task Force

• Establishes a digital divide task force within the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism to assess broadband access and computer ownership disparities across Hawaii.

• Task force shall determine the percentage of households with computers and broadband subscriptions, evaluate regional discrepancies, and identify areas most impacted by the digital divide.

• Membership consists of the strategic broadband coordinator of the Hawaii Broadband and Digital Equity Office as chairperson and one representative designated by each county mayor, with authority to add members from community organizations, regional groups, technology industry, and business sectors.

• Task force members serve without compensation and must consult with broadband service providers and regional community groups in performing duties.

• Task force shall submit final report with findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the 2023 regular session convening, then dissolve upon report submittal.
